Site Lighting

LED LightLight Emitting Diode (LED) technology is utilized for most of the exterior lighting applications. Expectant lamp/driver life for LED technology exceeds 50,000 hours which is more than double the lamp life of High Intensity Discharge (HID) technology. Also the higher correlated colour temperature of the LED lamps at 5682 and CRI of 72 gives a perceived higher level of lighting (a whiter light) compared to the HID lamps. 

Parking lot and driveway pole mounted fixtures consist of six LED light bars, providing a total of 9600 lumens output. These fixtures each consume 153 watts of power while providing an average illumination of 1.5 footcandles (or 16 lux). The fixtures have a 20'-0" mounting height rather than the usual 24'-0" as used with 250 watt Metal Halide (MH) or High Pressure Sodium (HPS). LED area lighting gives a lower average footcandle level but provides good uniformity and reduces hot spots below the pole which is not the case with MH and HPS. The manufacturer (RUUD Lighting) makes a comparison of 250W MH to 5 bar LED (128 watt) in photopic average delivered lumens.

LED Site LightBuilding mounted light fixtures are also LED type and consume 79 watts each. Within the front entrance canopy, recessed fluorescent downlights are installed.

Building Mounted LED Light FixtureExterior lighting fixtures were selected to provide full cut-off (i.e. zero percent of the peak intensity radiating above 90° and not more than 10% of peak intensity above 80°) in accordance with City of Windsor standards. This is intended to preserve the experience of the night sky and reduce light pollution. LEED credit will be attained for light pollution reduction and improvement of night sky by not exceeding 80% of lighting and power densities for exterior areas and 50% for building facades as outlined in ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1.
